Sustainability: an imperative element of a business of the future
Grupomar effectively carries out its daily activities with an astute and long-term eye

The speed of the modern world forces industries, companies, brands and people involved in the most diverse sectors to adapt to constant changes. Sometimes, as happened with the Covid-19 pandemic, changes must be made without hesitation, and while many actors decided to adapt to survive, others work with the present in mind to ensure the future.
Those companies that have made sustainability the cornerstone of their operations are not only a global spearhead, but also a necessary example to counteract the disproportionate impact that human activity has on the planet.
Although it is easy to say that we are all committed to or care about sustainability, carrying out the application of actions aimed at ensuring this work is not at all simple. Adhere to the commitment to defend and promote human rights, promote inclusion, equity and diversity, as well as use efficient technologies that favor respect for the environment and avoid harmful practices for the democratic development of peoples, such as corruption, it requires profound and lasting restructuring that changes the mindset of directors, collaborators and business partners of any institution.
In Mexico, various organizations are looking towards this model, some beginning its implementation, others, the most advanced and leaders in their sector, consolidating the work started several years ago.
One of these is Grupomar, a holding company that brings together 100% Mexican companies from the fishing, port and food sectors. One of them is the high consumption brand, Atún Tuny. Yes, Lo Tuyo’s is Tuny. The one that implemented easy-open cans in the country, ready-to-eat salads or pouches that we enjoy anywhere and make it easier to eat healthy in a short time.
Those applications are tangible to the consumer; however, Grupomar’s underlying actions led it to obtain various certifications for the sustainable fishing they carry out, such as that of the Marine Stewardship Council; benefiting its environment with more than 3,000 direct jobs and with product donations, supporting the development of its collaborators with constant training or having a workforce in which more than 50% of its collaborators are women.
This is not talked about much, but when it is mentioned it resonates loudly. And when executed, it creates solid foundations to meet any challenge. With sustainability as an umbrella, companies become one with the environment and the environment cannot be understood without the company. Thinking sustainable is thinking about the future, thinking about the future is ensuring a decent life for millions of people.
